Gas Meter

Design and Construction
| |
The gas meters manufactured through technical aid of AERZEN Germany consist of twin shaft rotors with 2-lobe design. They are suitable for measuring the volume of gas flow in closed loop systems.
The rotors revolve freely without contacting each other or the cylinder. This fact causes the pressure drop to be at a minimum. Otherwise, the high pressure drop would yield inaccurate results which are undesirable. The movement of the rotors are synchronized using a pair of synchronizing gears.

Each gas meter consists of the following main parts:
- Rotors
- Based on the size, they are made of anodized light alloy or grey cast iron.
- Gears
- They synchronize the revolution of rotors and due to special design, ensure a quiet vibration-free operation of the machine.
- Bearings
- Due to oversize nature of the bearings, the rotors rotate with minimum vibration and noise.
- Cylinder and cylinder heads
- They are made of high quality nodular cast iron.
- Magnetic coupling
- A frictionless and pressure tight magnetic coupling transmits the rotation from the pressure chamber to the drive shaft of the counter mechanism.
- Counter mechanism
- The counter mechanism features a closely stepped adjusting gear and 8 counting wheels.

Operating Mechanism
| |
Rotary piston gas meters operate according to the positive displacement principle. They are used for metering gas in closed piping systems.
A pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the gas meter produces a driving torque on the rotary pistons. Once the driving torque exceeds the inertia of the rotors, they start rotating. During rotation, the cavities formed between the rotors and the cylinder housing fill and discharge with a volume of gas. Therefore, the rotation of the pistons is a value for the gas which has flown through.
The rotation is transmitted via an adjusting gear to the counter, it records the gas volume that has passed across the gas meter in actual cubic meters. The rotors turn very freely, because no metal contact takes place within the measuring chamber.
The AERZEN rotary piston gas meters are equipped with a proven double roller type counter, which enables upon commissioning an adjustment to the flow direction by the customer without intervention of the counter.
